Listening is a big part of love or a relationship. If you can't listen, then you can't communicate.

If you just listen and do not act, then you will have nothing to listen except the chirping of birds, the sound of wind, the flow of water.

The first duty of love is to know what love language your partner speaks.. not everyone needs a listening ear.. some people wants to be touched, others would like to have acts of kindness, some would like to spend quality time together and others likes gifts =)

Forgiveness and choosing to love anyway is a big one in marriage over listening. You can listen all you want, but if you ignore or don't respond to the person you're listening to, that can be a very harmful thing to a marriage.

I dont know if it's the first duty but I do think it is very important to a relationship to listen. Even if you dont agree with what the other person is saying, atleast try to listen to their side!

I think it should be respect first though I was thinking it comes naturally and not a duty.

BlesseDMiN and a1legend, you are both so right. Love is listening to one's heart, mind, and soul. There are many ways to listen besides hearing!

i agree. we can't be in love and agree only to dictating. we must give our better halves space and consider them as our equals. and when this happen we will obviously be able to listen without fuss. no partner should dominate in love.

Definitely! Listen not only with ears, but with very heart, mind or soul. Without listening you can not acknowledge or at least give. Giving, sharing, trusting, touching or whatever be the acts bodily or mentally, listening has to come first. To listen means to understand. Without understanding how can there be LOVE?

I think to be able to listen to each other you need to be able to trust each other. So in my opinion trust is the first duty of love which then is a foundation for other duties.

I agree. There are times when I think my wife would just like me to listen and not necessarily fix the problem.

i think love is not bound to dutys.... love is an effection...u need to share everythings not command each other..talk,listen,share views, common decision would be a better option...
