Certificate – 12a Country – U.S.A Awards – 1Wins & 3 Nominations = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = So The Lost City, the big post Covid19 summer movie For when people flooded back to cinemas without masks and ready to be entertained. It was a now perfunctory $75 Million budget job for this type of mid scale action movie but bringing in £200 million, perhaps rather light on what they were expecting for this type of formulaic adventure movie. Allison ===The Plot== Beautiful and successful novelist/historian Angela Horton (Sandra Bullock) has written another one in her series of romantic adventure books. She is on a publicity tour with handsome hunk David Harris (Channing Tatum), the cover model for the novels and main male character in the book, Dash. Things go wobbly when she is abducted from the tour by tech billionaire and crackpot adventurer Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe), who thinks she should see what he has found on an island in the South Pacific, whether she wants to or not, his goons bundling her off a chopper and into a private jet in her high heels and sparkly green dress to a mysterious archeology dig under swaying tropical palms. Hot on her heels are her publicist Beth Hatten (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) and action man tracker Jack Trainer (Brad Pitt).Dash and Loretta Sage (Bullock) are romantic interest in her books but not so in real life, Alan, somewhat vain, dim and obnoxious in real life, no action hero. But maybe this is his chance to prove the opposite as they all set off in search of treasure and romance… ===Results=== With a rating of nearly 80% on Rottentomatos I had to give this a go. I was wrong. I’m beginning to wonder whether movie rating sites like them, and film critics’ in general, have been compromised. This is a dull action movie and its rating is ridiculous. The days of the glorious swashbuckling summer blockbusters have been saturated with Marvel stuff and they forget how to make them, the metaphor ending here really annoying. To be fair Bullock looks incredible on screen at 54-years young in her sparkly green dress but that’s not enough to keep your interest as the script is clunky and the action limited. Tatum is wasted here as the lead male lead and becoming typecast as the dumb lug, a token sassy large black lady running around alongside irritating box-ticking. God knows what Daniel Radcliffe is doing in this, all 5ft of him, hardly the best comic relief super villain to grace the big screen. Do not watch this movie.
