They are back

Summer has not fully set in but the birds are back wanting to frolic in our birdbath These always come in groups, chirping exchanging news and having fun. I call them big sparrows as I do not know what their name is. These birds had come earlier to peck at the pepper. When pepper turns red they know the pepper is ready - just a single pepper They just swallow but not chew as pepper is hot. In a way we welcome them as then we know that pepper is ready for harvesting. We have done that this year and we got a kilo or two.

You must be referring to capsicums that grow on plants These are vines Atleast we get to harvest pepper but when it comes to vegetables birds peck at even the flowers that emerge - a great frustration.

That’s interesting they swallow it down. Seems like if it’s hot they just would steer clear of it totally. As I was reading I thought how handy that would be to know the peppers are ripe by them eating them then I saw what you wrote in the last sentence

Same with mangoes. Mangoes get hidden among leaves and it is only when we see a half eaten mango on the ground that we know they should be harvested.

Make it tapered so that both the big and small birds can swim in it
