The Solution is Jesus

I have no idea what the struggle with addiction is like. We were always taught to never take that first drink or first drug and we wouldn't find out. Ironically, the one who taught us ended up addicted to prescription drugs and it destroyed her life.
Addictions come in many forms, though. It can be an addiction to attention, food, money... For me, if I ever had an addiction, I guess it would be to trying to make everything perfect for everyone else. I will lift boundaries and neglect self to make things better for someone else. It becomes a bad thing when I neglect my time with the Lord to concentrate on "fixing the world". And don't anyone give me any co-dependency explanation crap. I have the degrees, I know what the terms mean. That makes me think, we are so quick to put labels on people. We are quick to put people in a diagnosis box. We are so desperate to get help with our problems, we just accept those diagnoses and go on to struggle and try to survive with the stereotypes and "treatments".
I can NOT fix the world. Drugs and alcohol will NOT fix your problems. Fine clothes and the perfect body will NOT make us more valuable and loveable. Attention from the opposite sex will NOT cure your loneliness. A respectable, high-paying job will NOT give you purpose. Being sexually desirable will NOT ensure you have a relationship. The strongest emotional and mental walls will NOT ensure that you never get hurt. The best medical and psychological care will NOT insure you are not affected by the negatives of life. (We can even become addicted to getting help).
There is only 1 cure. That is not to say that other forms of support are not beneficial, but if we leave out the ONE, failure and continued addiction is inevitable.
Whatever it is with which we are struggling, the most important part of the solution is always left out when we apply treatment: that is Jesus. The truth of the matter is that we live in a sinful world and there will always be a struggle. Whatever our sinful/harmful proclivity is, we will always have a temptation. But only Jesus promises an escape from that temptation. I Corinthians 10:13 "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted,Hhe will show you a way out so that you can endure."
Most of us, our whole lives, will have those "down" moments (for whatever reason), in which we think we cannot continue to deal. But running to that drug, toxic relationship, power trip, etc. is not going to make anything better. We have to run to JESUS. I don't mean just saying a prayer or turning over a new leaf. I mean surrender every moment to Him in obedience and repentance. We must, literally, become a slave to Him. Only then will we begin to understand that His ways are higher or that His will is better.
This song is a perfect example of the struggle but is not quite accurate. You have to change the word "church" to "Jesus". Church can be an amazing resource for help, but church is not the answer. Jesus is the answer. And yes there will be times we feel as if He isn't hearing us. But HE IS. If we will trust Him, we will discover that even when He seems silent, He is holding us and He is healing us.
