Day 251 (Psalms 119:161-168) SHIN. Princes persecute me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of Your word. I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure. I hate and abhor lying, but I love Your law. Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous judgments. Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble. LORD, I hope for Your salvation, and I do Your commandments. My soul keeps Your testimonies, and I love them exceedingly. I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies, for all my ways are before You. Is your life an open book? Do people mock you because of your values or do they agree with you? What do you value most? What is your greatest treasure? The psalmist rejoiced in God’s Word as a person who finds great treasure. Though persecuted for his love of God’s law, he never strayed from it because it was his hope and salvation. As Christians, God’s Word is your greatest treasure. Reading it and spending time studying it should bring delight and cause joy in your soul. Jesus called the kingdom of heaven a great treasure. (Matthew 13:44) Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy, over it, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. You won’t know about God’s kingdom if you don’t study His Word. The psalmist studied God’s law and knew it for the treasure it was and kept God’s law because it was his delight. Do you delight in God’s Word? Is it your treasure? Or do you worry people will mock you for your faith and keep it hidden from the eyes of the world? What did Jesus say about hiding your faith? (Matthew 5:13-16) You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (NKJV) When you have God’s Word hidden in your heart, it will shine in your life to become a beacon to draw people to God. God’s Word is your greatest treasure. Unlike treasures you want to keep from the eyes of the world, you are to share your treasure with the world. It doesn’t matter if people mock you and want to destroy you because of your faith in Jesus Christ. What matters is your obedience in sharing your treasure with the world. Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word be my treasure to share with the world and not kept hidden from those who would persecute me and try to destroy my faith. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
