24 years ago, on this day, bombing of my country started. Yugoslavia was bombarded by NATO, and it lasted for 78 days (2 months, 2 weeks, 3 days). Around 2500 souls lost, among them, around 89 were children. Material damage was huge, but it is nothing compared to lost lives, and also permanent damage that will affect everyone here for ages. In 2015, Serbia was first in Europe in terms of mortality from malignant tumors. The increase in deaths and diseased happened after bombing, and it was most likely caused by 15 tons of depleted uranium that NATO threw at us. Real consequences and all the damage will probably never be known. I am writing this because I want to make awareness, that there were other wars, and there still are other wars after World War II, many people don't live in peace that we all deserve. It is heartbreaking that in the 21st century, this is still the way that people solve conflicts. So if you pray for peace, pray for peace for everyone and everywhere. There are no winners in the war. Everyone only loses.

I remember what happened on Yugoslavia like it was yesterday. The effects from the bombings will be displayed on many different shapes and forms most likely for a long time to come Just as happened in Japan after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today there are wars all over the place and not just in Ukraine. My biggest fear though is this If there is another war which involves the major players The USA, Russia, China, United Kingdom and Germany There will be nothing left.

It's good to hear for a change that someone not only knows about it, but realize it's impact and effects. After Ukraine (specially coz it could have been prevented), I wouldn't be shocked by anything. But I just hope that people in power won't hit that self destruction button,

@JimBo452020 Maybe it was my impression because there was no media back than like there is now, and also many people don't even know for Serbia now, but Yugoslavia was bigger name back then for sure. I know, but it will be destruction for all of us.

@frenki You might be surprised by how many people in the UK and around the world do know what happened in Yugoslavia. It was big news rightly so. Far more so than Putin invading Ukraine in my humble opinion. It won't be about hitting the self destruct button. It will be an ego trip for someone like Luton or Trump. My betting is Trump will start it if he gets back onto power.

Wars are terrible and cut people's lives short or keep them from living, it is a shame that peace can not prevail in this world,

What is most heartbreaking is that always innocent people get killed, while those who caused the war, "life happily ever after". It truly is shame that this much developed civilization can't live in peace.

All wars do is kill men, women and children. War should not be the way to settle conflicts but it will always be that way. Man will never change.

Agree, unfortunately, I believe so too. There is no help for us, some things will never change.
