Day 256 (Psalms 128:1-6) (A Song of Ascents.) Blessed is everyone who reverences the LORD, who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, you will be happy, and it will be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in the heart of your house, your children like olive plants around your table. Behold, thus will the man be blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life. Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel! What brings happiness? People spend a lot of money on things they think will make them happy, only to discard those things after a short time. They sit collecting dust in your basement, garage, or attic. The psalmist said one thing that brought blessings and happiness to people—those who feared God, reverenced Him and walked in His ways. Only then would they find happiness and God’s blessing in their home with their wives and children. Many Christians are no different from those who don’t know God and run after every new fad hoping to find happiness. They will even go to every Christian conference hoping to learn the recipe for happiness and God’s blessing in their lives. The psalmist said only one thing brought true happiness, fearing God, and walking in His ways. When you revere God, and stand in awe of Him, then you will know the happiness and blessing the psalmist spoke about. You will see the blessing in your spouse and children. You won’t go looking for it in all the conferences and fads the church and world can dream up. Yes, those conferences are good, but not when you spend your life going from one conference to another hoping to receive God’s blessing in your life. Your blessing comes when you spend time in God’s Word and prayer. It comes when you make God the head of your home and pay attention to the greatest gift God gave you, your spouse, and your children. How much time do you spend in God’s Word, in prayer, with your family? Evaluate your life, make changes where necessary and see God’s blessing in your life, and know the happiness God planned for you. Let’s pray: Father, bless me as I seek You daily, call on Your name, and make You the head of my home. Let me see Your blessing in my life, and see my family as You see them, as Your blessing on my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
