A love letter to NANA (who has animated characters that are more human than most humans)

To Hachi: The perky, naive princess who, no matter how many times she gets knocked down, still chooses to wear her heart on her sleeve. Her love for love remained steadfast all throughout the series (from girlfriend to wife to mother). Her relationships are always so far from what she hopes they will be but somehow, she found strength in vulnerability. Arguably the toughest character for me. To Nana: The coldest ice queen in the land whose emotions ate her up from the inside. Unsteady, unsure of whether she's ever going to reach her dream. The same dream that is (unfortunately) tied to the person whose love she didn't want to lean on. A prime example of what happens when abandonment issues are allowed to fester. It was obvious that Hachi was the one keeping her head above the water. Ironic, since it was Hachi who considered Nana her hero. And special mention to Shin: My absolute fave. Had the worst luck on the hand that life dealt him. Corrupted at such a young age, but having the most emotional intelligence among all the characters (not that he can apply it perfectly in his own life lol). P.S. I know this series is ANCIENT and I really should've watched this a long time ago. But I kept putting it off because 1) the horror genre for me are stories that force you to face reality and I had a feeling that this is going to wreck me (I was a right), and 2) just...forever in my shonen phase, and they're not exactly your short stories haha
