Day 280
(Proverbs 13:9) The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.
Light doesn’t always mean something to see with. In Scripture, light refers to people. It also refers to Jesus as the Light of the world.
Solomon was David’s light and lamp.
(1 Kings 11:30-36) Then Ahijah took hold of the new garment that was on him and tore it into twelve pieces. And he said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you (but he shall have one tribe for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel), because they have forsaken Me, and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the people of Ammon, and have not walked in My ways to do what is right in My eyes and keep My statutes and My judgments, as did his father David. However, I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of My servant David, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and My statutes. But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand and give it to you—ten tribes. And to his son I will give one tribe, that My servant David may always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My name there.’
Solomon spoke of the light as the posterity of the righteous, those who knew and worshiped God. He also spoke about the lamp of the wicked as the posterity of the wicked whom God would snuff out or destroy.
As Christians, you know Jesus is the Light of the world. He is the Light promised to come into the world from David’s line. He is called the Son of David.
(Isaiah 9:2) The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.
(Matthew 4:13-16) And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you accepted the Light God promised to His people. You are children of God. You are righteous because you belong to Him. All those who reject Jesus as Savior and Lord, God rejects. They will not inherit eternal life. Instead, they are lamps of their father, Satan.
(Matthew 12:22-28) Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind, and mute; and He healed him so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” Now when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. “If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.”
Whose light are you? Do you belong to the Light, Jesus Christ, or are you a lamp God will destroy because you follow wickedness and darkness lives in you?
Let’s pray: Father, You sent Your Light into the world to redeem me and bring me to the Light. Let Your Light shine in me so people will know I belong to You and give You glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
