Will it be embarrassing for senior people to play the electric scooter?

Last year my husband went to visit his family in town for about a week. It is a small city and I bought an electric scooter and sent it there so that he could use it.
When he was back home, he said me that the policeman told him not to play the scooter in the street
He left the electric scooter to his sister's sons.
This Labor holiday we went to his howntown and his sister told us that her sons dared not to play the electric scooter. Perhaps it is electric and it is not so easy to control and they are afraid of falling down etc. Then her husband tried it but then others said the senior man was so cool to play the scooter
He felt embarrassed
So finally we took this scooter to home and my son can play it anyway. I tried it once and it was so fast and I felt scared. The electric scooter is not something suitable for me

Where I live they're mostly used by adults, not kids!
They're a very popular alternative to cars for people who have short commutes in our town. I don't think I've ever seen a kid playing on one before. They do take a while to get used to, though.

I don`t see any old people using scooter here but they have this mini electric motor where they can sit comfortably and just run it
