A snake that slithered his way into a substation in Austin Texas on Tuesday afternoon. The snake made contact with electrical equipment that knocked out electricity to 16,000 customers for a period of one hour. Most of the time when electricity gets knocked out, squirrels are to blame. This time it was a snake that was the villain in Austin. Austin Energy spokesman Mark Mitchell mentioned in a tweet is in the process of installing a low energy fence around substations to keep snakes away from touching electrical sources of power. They really are sneaky since in my former residence which was near a scrap yard had small snakes in the open area when the grass was high.

In Greenville, Michigan this happened. A squirrel fell into the high power electrical equipment, power was out for thousands of residents. They found the squirrel without any hair left on its body, yet still alive!

The squirrel is lucky to be alive after the incident in your hometown.

@Deepizzaguy It was terribly burned, so they had to put it out of its misery.

That would have been a problem. Remind me of a balloon who got stuck in the power lines. But when I complained no one answered it.

It is a shame that no one came to your aid when your balloon was stuck on a power line.

Well, it is different! Guess he won't be slithering into any more substations

I do feel scared of snakes but it's the first time I am hearing that they caused this nuisance

Well, I’d cry over a squirrel before I’d cry over a snake.

You are right since squirrels are not so bad compared to snakes since I have seen squirrels on the high wires in the neighborhood across the street.

Wow, who would have thought about a snake damaging a substation. I guess the fence will take care of that.
