Diel Rhinehart who is a high school senior at Gwynn Park High School in Prince Georges County Maryland credits his training as a firefighter through the Prince George's County Fire Cadet Program which is a way for high school students who attend Gwynn Park High School and Charles Herbert Flowers High School. Diel used his training to save his younger brother who had to boil eggs but turned the wrong burner on and he made the error of leaving the kitchen. When the younger brother of Diel came back and he saw the flames. he tried to put out the fire and he received burns on both of his arms. When Diel's younger brother tried to put out the fire by using water, the flames burned both of his arms since water and flames do not work together. Diel used flour to put out the fire and get the pot out of the kitchen to take it outside on Sunday in January. Diel was awarded the fire chiefs award for heroism recently by the fire department. Diel plans to enroll at North Carolina Central University in the autumn and major in nursing. Diel admits that without taking firefighter courses during his high school years, he would have panicked and not be able to save the life of his younger brother. I really wish people knew what to use water on, and what to use baking soda on (or, in this case, flour). They teach kids to stop, drop, and roll if they catch on fire. Why can't they teach you not to put water on anything with grease (which is normally on a stove anyway)?

That is a problem that a lot of people do not have the basic skills needed to put out fires inside of houses these days.

Instead of splashing the flaming burner with wster, he should off the burner. It's because he's panicking. He gets confused. In incident like that, presence of mind is important.

You are right since when anyone act on fear, we will make errors in judgement instead of being calm and deal with the problem the right way.

@Deepizzaguy That's why... presence of mind is the key to soberness when there's a danger.
