I was talking to my mum today and she was telling me that the government decided to let women travel in the buses for free only in Karnataka, well I have not used buses since my school days as the prices just kept going up and it was not affordable to travel in public transport, and now they have come up with a scheme called The Shakthi Scheme The Shakti Scheme introduced by the Congress government in Karnataka is an empowering initiative that provides women with free bus travel in non-luxury buses operated by the state-run transportation corporations. This scheme aims to enhance women's mobility and promote their welfare. Eligible women, estimated to be around 42 lakh residents of Karnataka, can avail themselves of this benefit on a daily basis. By offering free travel in government buses, the scheme ensures that women from various backgrounds can access affordable transportation for their daily commutes. This initiative not only empowers women by increasing their mobility and independence but also contributes to their economic well-being and overall quality of life. The government's commitment to providing this service underscores their dedication to supporting women's rights and promoting gender equality in the state. To avail the benefits of the Shakti Scheme and access free bus travel in non-luxury buses, eligible women in Karnataka can follow the application process outlined by the government. Here are the general steps: Ensure eligibility: Confirm that you are a resident of Karnataka and meet the criteria specified by the government for the scheme. Details regarding eligibility, such as age restrictions or specific documentation requirements, can be obtained from official sources or government announcements. Gather required documents: Collect the necessary documents for identification and verification. These may include Aadhaar card, ration card, driving license, or any other official identification document specified by the government. Ensure that the documents are valid and up to date. Approach bus conductors: Once you have the required documents, present them to the bus conductors while boarding non-premium services operated by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWRTC), or North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC). The conductors will verify your eligibility and allow you to travel for free. Obtain smart cards (if applicable): The government plans to issue smart cards to eligible women after three months of the scheme's implementation. These cards will likely streamline the process and provide more convenience while availing free bus travel. Stay updated with official announcements regarding the issuance of smart cards and follow the prescribed procedure to obtain one, if applicable.
