Elaina Nelson has helped her sisters banish evil spirits, but that's the last thing on her mind the night of her engagement party. When she suddenly becomes ill, something tells Elaina it's time to fight for her life. Unfortunately, she may have to face this battle alone. Will she learn how to harness her abilities, saving Christmas for everyone, including the last person she ever expected to help? She has to go into the past to find something that will help someone in the present. And in finding that something she must fight the evil witch mermaid... again. ~~~~ This was an interesting read. I thought I was getting a little Christmas novella. Christmas didn't occur until the last couple of pages of the book. But that's fine. I don't always read the synopsis before I read a book, especially one that screamed Christmas. I am not typically a fan of fantasy but I do like the paranormal, and this story was all about the paranoromal. A woman who can speak to dead family members, who can go into their past in a dream state if she is holding one of their objects. This was fascinating to me. There was a lot about family, relationships and love. A very comforting read. Except for the part about the witchy mermaid type person, but I was okay with that. This was the demon she had to tackle in order to save the life of a young girl. It was a very good story, very original and well written. I now want to read the other two books in the series.

I like most books but not fantasy I like to read books of stories that could happen and possibly has. You go right ahead and enjoy it. I likely read books that you wouldn’t find interesting.

I didn't know it was a fantasy. I don't read fantasy. I thought it was a Christmas romance but it really wasn't at all. It ended on Christmas Day and we got to read all about that day, but the build up to that day was anything but Christmassy. I do not veer towards fantasy at all but have read a couple that I surprisingly enjoyed.

@RubyHawk For sure. I used to read a ton of Catherine Cookson books. I have a whole shelf full. They would be considered historical fiction. I wouldn't read that today, but I think I still have one of hers that I haven't read and may get around to it eventually.

@patgalca At one time I loved fantasy and science fiction but I grew out of it. I think our taste changes occasionally.

Yeah, I probably wouldn’t have been into the witchy mermaid part either. The cover of the book is notably pretty.

I have a habit of not reading the synopsis on the back of the book and in this case I was totally surprised by the storyline. I expected a Christmas romance. The Christmas and the romance came together at the end of the book when the already engaged couple got married on Christmas Day. I didn't mind the witchy mermaid part. But I'm with you, I prefer something I can relate to.

It's less than 200 pages, so a quick read.
