Postal carrier rescues a dog stuck in a swampy canal

United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier Alex Cajio was on his delivery route in Pinellas Park Florida on Saturday June 17 near Freedom Lake Park when he saw a small black dog stuck in a swampy canal struggling to get out. The small dog barked to get the attention of Alex who then saw that he needed to save the dog from possibly dying from the heat as well as alligators and coyotes in the area. Alex then got out of his truck and used a bar that he had inside of his truck to go down the incline and brush to rescue the dog who was in the canal. Alex was able to get the dog out of the canal when a concerned eyewitness who assisted Alex by giving the dog water and food. The eyewitnesses then took the dog to the SPCA Tampa Bay Shelter in Largo where the officials at the animal shelter will take care of the senior dog where they hope that the dog will be adopted by a loving family. The gender of the dog is female who is grateful that a postal carrier showed compassion by rescuing her from a watery grave. How did the dog wind up in a canal is not known.
