Day 348 (Jeremiah 7:29-34) ‘Cut off your hair and cast it away and take up a lamentation on the desolate heights; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’ “For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight,” says the LORD. “They have set their abominations in the house, which is called by My name, to pollute it. And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into My heart. Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “when it will no more be called Tophet, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; for they will bury in Tophet until there is no room. The corpses of these people will be food for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth. No one will frighten them away. Then I will cause the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem. For the land will be desolate. When you were disobedient to your parents, broke the rules in school, and didn’t follow instructions at work, you came under disciplinary action from those in authority. God’s people were disobedient. They continued to do as they pleased, worshiping idols, and sacrificing their children to other gods until God said it was enough and He would bring destruction on their lives, He would send them from His sight. No longer would they celebrate with singing and gladness, even the land would become desolate. As Christians, you believe you are above God’s wrath. Yet, when you disobey Him, He will discipline you. He will bring trouble your way until you confess your sin and turn from your wicked ways and trust in Him again, doing what He directs you so He can bring joy and gladness back into your life. Until you do, you will wander like people without hope. (Hebrews 12:4-11) You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Will we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward, it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. If you are disobedient, you can expect God’s discipline in your lives. Let’s pray: Father, bring joy and gladness back into my life when I confess my sin, and let me know Your forgiveness in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 26 June 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Sometimes I think my health problems are a price that I am paying for my sins; but someone else told me that's not the case...that God forgave me when I asked for his forgiveness. Have a good week.

They're right. God is not punishing you with health problems. God always forgives you when you ask Him. Have a good week too and a blessed day today.

That's most probably the reason why we have the Sacrament of Confession", to be able to ask forgiveness from God and be able to accept any "punishment" He would give. May I ask if you believe in this sacrament? Thanks again for these enlightening reminders.

I don't see confession as a sacrament, but I believe in confessing my sin when necessary. Have a blessed day.

God is a forgiving God, when we confess our sins.
