Rainy days are my most favorite, but I don't like that "earthy smell" when rain starts to fall, especially on days when you don't expect it. Though it still gives you a little soothing effect, the thought that such scent is produced by bacteria haunts me. The longer the dry days, the longer the bacteria stay on the ground. I can't imagine how everything diffuses around us when rain starts falling. Make the rain last a little longer, or at least be a little heavier is what I always wish for. Just enough to wash all the bacteria away. Now which scent soothes me the most? I think there's two. First and foremost is the fresh, cool air. Sea air is good, but I like air from the mountains better. The presence of trees makes me believe that air is at its freshest there, keeping the balance of everything in it. Second is peppermint, peppermint camphor or also known as menthol. Fresh breath that is, and you know... That scent that comes from diffusers and massage oils. We all know how bad breath can dampen any mood and it's also one way to tell if a person isn't taking good care of themselves. Other than that, any day is a soothing one for me as long as the diffuser is turned on. I use eucalyptus oil as alternative as it still has a minty scent and it's known for its antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. And it's more soothing to end a tiring day when I give myself a quick massage. There's usually a scent left on my hand after doing it. So I take one last, deep breath and inhale all that minty scent. How about you, what scent/s do you find the most soothing?

I guess it doesn't help to know that a lot of bacteria is good bacteria? We have good bacteria in our gut after all. And if we didn't have good bacteria in nature, our environment would cease to exist. The smell of lavender relaxes me, and the smell of citrus calms me too.

I like citrus and lavender too! But my partner's a bit sensitive. Lavender might be strong for him, so I just stick to the basics.
