This churner belonged to my husband's grand mother and she is no more I have now handed it over to someone in the family who has interest in collecting vintage items This churner is now more than one hundred years old
The churner is used to make butter from cream. It takes quite an effort and time for this job but in the good old days that was part of a woman's responsibility. Many households had cows and they had enough milk to collect cream.
In my days I just collected cream from milk that we bought and that cream was heated to produce ghee
Have you proudced your own butter or ghee?

With both hands it is rolled briskly until butter is formed. A bit of water is added

I don't have any cows at home and I've never made butter myself.

You do not have to have cows but you can do it with the cream from the milk that you buy
