1998 Chevy Blazer Vin "W"

I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer that is having tranny problems. First of all I ran it low on fluid about four quarts. I had a check engine light come on giving me the code "PO 785" which is shift/timing solenoid malfunction. So I added the fluid back to it then cleared the code. What made me catch the problem was when I take of it was taking of in second gear. It wasn't shifting back down to 1st. After getting it going it ran good but shifted late. Well after taking care of the issue (low fluid) it is shifting great. My question is did the computer set the code because it was low on fluid or because that solenoid needs to be replaced? help
