Oak disease identification?

I have been out trimming my family’s coast live oaks, reducing fire danger and drying wood for projects. Unfortunately, one of our biggest trees seems to be not doing well. It looks like either the heartwood of this huge branch is dissolving from the inside or something is growing on it. Recently we have been experiencing heavy rain. Perhaps it is only a fungus, but it looks concerning.

How sad to see a sick tree. I know nothing about the types of fungus. I hope it can be saved.
