Day 355 (Jeremiah 33:1-9) Moreover, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, “Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD is His name). Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah, which have been pulled down to fortify against the siege mounds and the sword, “They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but only to fill their places with the dead bodies of men whom I will slay in My anger and My fury, all whose wickedness I have hidden My face from this city. Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return and will rebuild those places as at first. I will cleanse them from the iniquity by which they sinned against Me, and I will pardon their iniquities by which they sinned and by which they transgressed against Me. Then it will be to Me a name of joy, praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who will hear all the good I do to them; they will fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity I provide for it.” Various cities have reputations when you think about them. New York City is the Big Apple. Chicago is the Windy City. Philadelphia is the City of Brotherly Love, and Green Bay is Titletown. I know there are more. Perhaps your city has a name people recognize when they think about it. God told Jeremiah; Jerusalem would have a name. It would be a name of joy and praise before all the nations of the earth. God would cause Israel and Judah to return to their homes, build them, and bring health and healing to the people. No longer would God hide His face from His people, but He would pardon their sins and transgressions. Then all nations would stand in awe and tremble at all God would do for His people. As Christians, you know Jerusalem as the Holy City, the city where Jesus will reign when He returns at the end of the Tribulation when He brings peace to the earth. It is the place of God’s praise and where His glory dwells. Then everyone who sees what God will do for His chosen people and Jerusalem, will come to Jerusalem and give Him praise and joy will fill the land. What a glorious day that will be. Not only did God do for Israel and Judah as He promised when they returned from their captivity, but He also promised to do it again in the last days. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for giving Jerusalem a new name, a name of Joy and Praise. Let Your glory and praise fill Your Holy City and bring joy to everyone who hears her name. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 3 July 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
