LET US BE GLAD AND REJOICE – YEAR 2
Day 1
(Ezekiel 35:1-15) Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it, and say to it, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you; I will stretch out My hand against you, and make you most desolate; I will lay your cities waste, and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the LORD. Because you have had an ancient hatred, and shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when their iniquity came to an end, therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will prepare you for blood, and blood will pursue you; since you have not hated blood, therefore blood will pursue you. Thus, I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns. I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those who are slain by the sword will fall. I will make you perpetually desolate, and your cities will be uninhabited; then you will know that I am the LORD. Because you said, ‘These two nations and these two countries will be mine, and we will possess them,’ although the LORD was there, therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will do according to your anger and according to the envy which you showed in your hatred against them; and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you. Then you will know that I am the LORD. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’ Thus, with your mouth you boasted against Me and multiplied your words against Me; I have heard them.” Thus says the Lord GOD: “The whole earth will rejoice when I make you desolate. As you rejoiced because the inheritance of the house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to you; you will be desolate, O Mount Seir, as well as all of Edom—all of it! Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
People have tried to annihilate Israel throughout history, but Israel stands while the nations and people who come against her disappear. In recent history, we have hate crimes against the Jewish people when gunmen went into their synagogues and gunned down those inside. Not only were Jewish people killed, but also the gunmen.
God will always protect her people from those who come against her. He told Ezekiel to prophesy against Edom because Edom always hated Israel. Edom and Israel were brothers. As God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, He changed Esau’s name to Edom. There was hatred between the brothers because the birthright went to Jacob, the second-born twin, instead of Esau. Esau intended to destroy Jacob and take back his birthright. God promised their mother, Rebekah, that the elder twin would serve the younger. When Jacob received the birthright instead of Esau, Esau vowed to kill Jacob. God promised Edom that He would destroy Edom and make her desolate.
According to history, Edom ceased to exist as a nation in 667 B.C. The people of Edom were forced to convert to Judaism and became known as Idumaeans. King Herod, at the time of Jesus, was an Idumaean. After the Jewish-Roman wars in 66 A.D., the Idumaean people disappear from history. God kept His promise to destroy Edom. Edom rejoiced at Israel’s captivity. God said the nations would rejoice at Edom’s destruction.
As Christians, you are to pray for and support Israel. God promised to prosper everyone who prayed for her peace.
(Psalms 122:6-9) Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.” For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.” Because of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.
Every country that supports Israel will prosper and every country that makes war against her to destroy her, God will destroy.
When you pray, pray for Israel and rejoice in her and God will rejoice in you and prosper you.
Let’s pray: Father, I seek only good for Israel and her peace from those who continually come against her. According to Your promise, let Your blessing and prosperity rest on me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
