The saga of the 60 feet dead whale

A partially decomposed 60 feet dead whale came ashore on the Irish shore. Researchers came to collect samples of the whale to conduct necropsy. While on the job they heard loud rumblings from within the abdomen. Concerned that it would explode they abandoned the project. They suspect that it was the methane build up in there.

@allknowing You would have thought they would have known what to expect, but none of them realized at the time that triple the amount of regular dynamite had been used. The witnesses weren’t even close to the whale, it just spread farther than they thought it would. This was back in the 1980s though, I believe. Mistakes were more than common.

That was may be to make the burial easy and what a sight it must have been. Surely the witnesses knew what was in store.

It was left there to decompose and I do not think anyone has gone anywhere near it .

Good thing they abandoned the effort. After reading about whale blubber they did the right thing.
