When does the mylot rating increase much?

The number which we see within the brackets after our name is the rating given to us by mylot. When does the rating increase much? Is it during when we start a new discussion or when we respond to others discussion? Will it increase when we get more responses to our discussion?

Whenever you post it increases by a post, I'm unsure of the increase of people responding to your topics however.
