Some items are okay in Generic or off brand. Some items just don't cut it unless you pay for brand name. What items will you allow yourself to buy in Generic form? For me, most over the counter meds are equal so I buy those generic or store brand. One thing I REFUSE to buy in generic, my toilet paper!

I use some generic brands. But, I prefer store brands. I am very frugal when it comes to shopping. If I can't get it fresh I will buy frozen and always have a couple of cans of vegetables, fruit and soups on hand. Quick and easy is great. Coupons are good too, if you find a coupon for an item that you actually use. The coupons that are offered in flyers are for items that we do not use regularly. Why spend money on things you don't normally use. That isn't thrifty.

Yes, never ever buy cheap toilet paper...Charmin only for me:) I also can't go cheap on laundry detergent. I guess if I am going to go cheap on anything maybe generic brand green beans....even then. I don't go cheap on much. OH! Well, yes, I guess meds. Thats about it though.

For over the counter meds I buy generic. Unfortunately the Rx's that we take here in our house are not all available in generic, so we end up spending ALOT.

We buy a few generic things when we shop. Some of the things are medicines, tissues, paper towel, frozen veggies, fruit cups and some cereals. There are a few of the store brand cereals that my kids prefer to the name brand stuff. Most of the other stuff you can't really tell a difference.

Cereal and Milk - with strawberries on top
Honestly, most cereals I CAN tell the diff between store brand and name brand. Not sure what it is but there usually is a difference for me too. So I'm with the kids on that! lol However, you can usually get the cereals that are on sale for about the same price.

Electronics and home entertainment stuff has to be branded for me to trust it. I do buy generic batteries though because my kids go wild on them.

The only thing I've found with generic "C" is that some of it tastes horrible (I buy the chewables). But usually most all meds, OTC or Prescript are the same.

Living with only one income, I try to cut corners when I can. Sometimes, it's just not worth it. The only things so far that I buy generic are over the counter meds, my sons formula, (after consulting his pediatrician)and frozen vegatables. I've learned most of the frozen veggies are made and packaged at the name brand factories.

I will buy generic prescription medication because it has the same effect as the original name plus it is cheaper. I will buy most thing in generic but I will not buy generic foods from the supermarket. I will buy brand name foods, not the store names. No generic toilet paper for me either. :-)

I don't mind buying most foods in the generic brand! I save so much...well it all adds up to savings. I don't really buy generic baby food, instead, I buy either gerber or earth's best (they are organic). I do NOT buy generic diapers...we tried that and it did NOT work...lol. I don't mind buying generic wipes though.. We don't buy generic sodas either... :)

I do recall the days of generic diapers too. Definitely NOT worth the money savings when you figure out how much more you spend in clean up! lol

I think its ok to buy generic, because one thing: There is some crisis happening on people wallets, and because a big ammount of that generic products, are produced by the same companies that have the normal brands, and most of them have the same quality.

We buy almost EVERYTHING in generic with the exception of ketchup (it has to be the 57 varieties brand) and macaroni and cheese dinner (the brand initials rhyme with LADY). I was laughing when I read your post. We buy whatever toilet paper is the cheapest (counting rolls and sheets and cost), so sometimes its generic and sometimes we get lucky and it's a better brand.

I buy mouthwash in generic, but not toothpaste. I use to buy generic toilet paper but I learned my lesson. I buy Kroger brand cola or walmart or regular Diet Coke. I don't like some of the generic colas. Most of the Otc meds I buy store brand or generic.

I'll buy most things generic if possible. The only exception really is with my soda pop. The only reason for that is I drink diet and many of the generics don't agree with me, they give me migraines so I have to be careful. Everything else though if I can get it generic I'll at least try it. Some generics I have found I like better, like mac and cheese.

I used to be so picky about a lot of things. But I can honestly say now, I cannot think of one thing I would not buy in generic. Even my TP. Although I do have a favorite so when I find it on sale with my coupons, I stock up on it. =) But really, generic is fine with me on everything. however, the good thing about coupons is, I don't hardly buy any generic. When something is on sale and I have a coupon, it's cheaper, by far, than the generic brand. So as much as I ~would~ buy generic, I usually don't have to. Weird how that works, huh.

Yeah, usually if you get "sales" and use coupons and such you can get brand name for close to and even sometimes better prices. I just never buy enough to do that! lol

I buy several different things in generic, well actually alot! I do not and will not like yourself go towards low quality toilet paper, it is more expensive in the long run because you have to use so much more. I also don't buy my laundry products in generic because it doesn't work as well as leading brands.
