There are many maize plantations in different parts of the country. In addition to producing maize, the crops are helping in creating a type of atta made up of maize called makai ka atta. In many countries that is used to make chapatis.

I thought chapatis are only made from wheat flour

thanks John yes wheat in India is called gehun. Majority of chapatis are made from gehu but there are other chapatis made from jowar and bajra
