Southern Baptist Dilemmas

The southern baptist denomination is under scrutiny. I have been a Southern Baptist since I was 17 years old. Before that, I was Independent Baptist. I have loved being a part of the Southern Baptist up until a little over 10 years ago. That is when we moved to New York as missionaries. I begin to have a less than favorable opinion of them when I realized what they prioritized most was numbers, not transformed lives. Over the past few years, the Southern Baptist Convention has become more liberal. They operate more as a business than a ministry. They care more about following the culture than Christ. They functions are becoming less Biblical as they seek being popular. When my husband and I went to New Orleans, representing our church at the Southern Baptist Convention, I realized just how far from Biblical values our denomination has waivered. It was disheartening to see a Christian establishment embrace immorality and unscriptural ideas. However, it was encouraging to see how many churches showed up to vote to take us back to Biblical ideologies. We will see how things go over the next year. If they continue to embrace worldly ideas, our church, as well as others, will be withdrawing from the denomination.

Some churches go to far in the wrong direction. I hope yours does not.

I have been keeping up with what has been going on with the Southern Baptist denomination (I’m Free Will Baptist), and I completely back your opinions about what is going on.
