Anyone watching the Womens Football World Cup?

I have watched England's games but not much more. They are morning kick offs here as its based in Australia & New Zealand. FIFA were not happy that European TV companies would not pay megabucks to cover it with those early morning live games on offer. Its the school holidays here now so viewing numbers should rise. The fact many of the girls are gay and tomboys also makes its a harder sell to advertisers to make it more profitable. England look OK but like most countries their teams have been hit hard by ACL injuries, no fewer than 200 female intentional players with that career threatening injury in the last two years. In this politically correct world no one is allowed to say women have weaker and more vulnerable bodies on the football field but clearly the case. The good thing about women's soccer is they are less cynical on the pitch with all the fouls and diving around and stuff. The crowds are lot less aggressive and lots of families going along and great to see some nations that dont have a strong male team do well here, like Columbia. .The negatives are the girls have less power and the keepers are too small. .I dont think England will win and the Americans the favorites but you never know!

I hope my fellow American women lose. Good luck to England!

My son watches it. I don't. I think it's the first time that our country participated in it.

I'm glad that now, women who want to play football can do so and get to the top level and get some actual attention in the media! Apart from that, I don't have the slightest interest in football at all, no matter who's playing it. And I'm glad my children are not interested. ACL injuries are one reason I have never been keen, either on playing myself (not that I ever really had an opportunity) or encouraging children to play. Football has long been known as a major cause of ACL injuries and they cause serous long-term problems - and that put me off before I knew women may be at higher risk (because I didn't know that until you just told me! Although I see now that the BBC did an article about ACL injuries in women's football. )
