That's what's missing

Today is the last weekday of Summer Break for the staff and faculty at my old school. Monday, they start teacher workdays.
Normally, by this time in August, I would already have been out to the school to start getting my classroom ready, prepare for the first day of school, update my parent letter, set up a new Google Classroom site, and a host of other little tasks that we never seemed to have time for on the actual workdays because of meetings and Staff Development sessions.
And there would have been a sense of anticipation and excitement at the prospect of a new school year with a new group of kids to get to know, nurture, and cherish.
Such was my life for the past 21 years. This year, it's all happening again, just without me.
Instead of walking into the school Monday morning for my first official day of the new school year, I'll be relaxing at a campsite on Jordan Lake and wondering if I want to take the kayak out for a paddle or just go for a long walk around the campground with Sophie.
I'm missing the sadness of the end of Summer Break mixed with the anticipation of a new school year. But, don't worry, I'm sure I'll get over -
What was I going on about?

Hmm, separation anxiety. I recommend two nights camping, and call nobody in the morning.

I am working as special educator and counselor for the last 15 years and I can very well relate to all that you have mentioned.
Why are you not going back to school? I assume it to be retirement.

You are very blessed to have been able to retire.
I know many people who lost their jobs due to closures or poor health and couldn't walk out of work on their own accord to enjoy retirement.
My hubby retired the third week of February, and he couldn't be happier, he is also very busy helping to care for our twin grandchildren. Things will slow down as they age and especially when they start to school, and that will be when I retire. I need to work as long as I can to keep my mind active, there is alot of dementia in my family. I will probably go from working to senile, but I try not to think of that, as it may not happen.

I can relate to what you are going through in retirement from working as a teacher at school since I do miss working my former job in the pizza business and now enjoying my work as a good news writer on this site,

There are sometimes I still miss work even after 13 years of being retired....but I quickly get over it when I remember the office politics and drama and two-faced people!!! Then I don't regret being retired AT ALL. Enjoy your weekend.
