After delivery the baby's umbilical cord blood is collected and stored in a public or private blood bank This blood can save many a life threatening disease. I've heard of this but do not know anyone personally doing it.

Yes, I started first hearing about this years ago among the rich. It’s expensive, but if one can afford to do it, then they absolutely should. A heck of a lot of Hollywood people have talked openly about doing that, and some have related stories about it coming in handy later on. I hope it becomes more affordable over the years.
