NSAIDs and caffeine...

I was reading this article about ibuprofen and caffeine.
Now, back when I was a teen, they talked about aspirin and coke - really any caffeinated soda - making you high. I didn't believe it then, and I'm sure it has long gone out of the zeitgeist of high schoolers, most of whom are better educated on drugs than we were back in my day.
However, ibuprofen and I are not friends... why? well, most ibuprofen over the counter has corn starch, for all of you people tired of hearing about my opinion of corn... I think this is the most this time.
I take a stronger NSAID than ibuprofen, stronger than naproxen sodium, I'm taking diclofenac sodium which the oral form hasn't been made over the counter yet. Why do I say 'oral'? well, because Voltaren, a joint relief ointment, is diclofenac.
But, like naproxen, the oral meds are a long term thing, not for immediate relief. So, while neither my pain doc nor my GI doc likes it, I sometimes take aspirin.
But not the pills (see paragraph 3) I take BC Powder. I actually prefer the arthritis strength to the regular. However, both have 65 mg of caffeine to assist the aspirin in working.
So, what do you take to help with pain and/or inflammation? Just FYI, I do take other meds to help with more of my pain too.

I've heard a lot of people saying that. Even my sister, for whom acetaminophen did nothing, like my father and myself, says that taking those together actually help. There is acetaminophen in my hydrocodone I take and the medication isn't available without it.

@paigea yeah, acetaminophen is supposed to help with the pain and then the ibuprofen helps with inflammation. However, every time I've tried acetaminophen it seems to make the pain worse and, well, most ibuprofen has corn in it, actually on it, the coating.

I try to ignore pain, but sometimes I'll take an extra strength tylenol (generic).

Ya know, there's pain and then there's PAIN! I skinned my knee last week, it hurt a little, but I could ignore it because it wasn't like the rest of my stupid body! I guess I really should've stopped doing things that nearly killed me...

I just take paracetamol. You mentioned caffeine does it ease pain?

@florelway I don't care for coffee or tea super hot, my tender tongue just can't take it. I also can't take super spicy food, in fact, I can barely tolerate semi-spicy food, I've gotten so... well... soft? I do both drink and sip cold drinks. A lot of the time I'm just sort of lubricating my mouth. I have a drink by my bed and if I wake up super dry, I just take a mouthful and kind of let it hydrate my mouth. It may take a couple of mouthfuls, but I'm not just sucking it down.

I had to look that up. Apparently paracetamol is the same as acetaminophen and I don't know if the addition of caffeine helps in their case. However, I suspect that what caffeine does mostly is help get the product to working more rapidly. It isn't a pain reliever itself, it just helps the products to work more quickly.

@ElicBxn Thanks for sharing. I am a coffee lover and I want my coffee real hot or piping hot with water just reached its boiling point. It could also be that the hot liquid can help in relieving pain. Sipping water can also help in pain because it hydrates and lubricates painful areas. Water should be sipped not drank.
