Back in the 90s I organised a group trip for a bunch of people I worked with - not one of those "team bonding" things, just a bunch of us taking advantage of a group rate to go to Amsterdam.
Some people moaned about the destination, the cost, the travel arrangements, etc. You would have thought they were being forced to go at gunpoint!
One of the guys I worked with was an old hippy and he said to me "You could organise a trip to New York, for free, with five-hundred quid spending money thrown in and someone would still complain about it."
Nothing has changed and I've now given up completely trying to organise anything for other people. Not sure why it took me so long to listen to the old hippy, but I really should have paid attention back then!
My husband persists in hoping people won't be moaning ingrates, but I lowered my expectations a long time ago.
I barely get involved with anything. I won't join anything and I certainly won't organise, run, manage, facilitate or be responsible for anything involving other people.
Some people are great but some aren't and I'm done dealing with the ones that aren't.
What is something that took you a long time to realise?

It took me a long time to finally realize that age does not, in fact, always bring wisdom. I thought at a certain age I could count on people knowing when to keep quiet about things. Um, no. Apparently, you cannot count on that at all.
I feel for you. You went to all the trouble to plan something that should be enjoyable, and all they did was complain about the trip.

Some people never grow beyond their school playground mentalities. I find them quite exhausting, who has time for that kind of nonsense?
