Day 43
Matthew 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
32 He will gather all the nations before Him, and separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; 36 I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
37 Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
45 Then He will answer them, saying, assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
We live in a me society. Nobody goes out of their way to help their neighbors unless a crisis happens. Then they come together and help. Otherwise, they don’t even know who their neighbor is.
Jesus told a parable about what would take place when He came with His angels and separated the sheep from the goats. To the sheep, He gave eternal life because they helped Him, giving Him what He needed. He sent the goats into eternal punishment reserved for the devil and his angels because they didn’t help Him. When questioned about when they were supposed to help Him, He told them when they helped their neighbor, they helped Him. Those who didn’t help their neighbor did not help Him.
As Christians, you know you are to help those in need. Yet many Christians also have a me philosophy, only taking care of themselves and not lending a hand when they can. You know who the helpers are. They are the volunteers who come forward when their pastor or ministers ask for help in certain areas. The rest of the people in the congregation walk out the door and go home never giving a thought about how they can help. They hurry home to their lifestyle away from church and other Christians.
Jesus had sharp words for those who didn’t help others. He said their destination was the same as those of the devil and his angels.
What kind of Christian are you? Do you volunteer where needed? Can people depend on you to go where needed? Or when the volunteer sheets are passed around, you leave them blank and hand them to the next person.
God knows your heart. He knows who belongs to Him and those who only give lip service but never gave their life to Jesus Christ. Jesus said you are to let your light shine so the world would know you belong to Him.
Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (NKJV)
When you help those in need, you help Jesus. When you ignore those in need, you ignore Him. Jesus will ignore you too when you ignore others. Life isn’t supposed to be about you. It’s supposed to be about others.
The lawyer who came to Jesus asked Him what the greatest commandments were.
Matthew 22:35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You will love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You will love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
When Jesus comes with the angels and sits on His throne, He will judge between those who helped their neighbor and those who didn’t. Are you a sheep or a goat?
Let’s pray: Father, You know my heart. You search me and know me. You know my innermost thoughts and know if I am true to You. Let me find Your blessing in my life when You return to sit on Your throne, judging the righteous and the wicked. Let me find my eternal home with You in glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
