Day 44 Matthew 26:26 As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until the day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” 30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Have you prepared for your death? Did you decide on your final meal in your preparations? People write everything down about how they want things done for them in their final hours and after they die. When Jesus told the disciples the Passover would be in two days, three days after His triumphal ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. He told the disciples to prepare a place for the meal. During the meal, Jesus told them it was His final meal. He said He desired to eat it with them before someone at the table would betray Him to His death. Then He took the bread and blessed it, and then the cup. He told them the significance of the bread and cup was for the remission of sins. After the meal, they left for the Mount of Olives. As Christians, you are familiar with communion. You celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection often when you gather. You know the significance of the bread and the cup. Jesus told the people He was the Bread of Life. John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. When Jesus broke the bread, He showed that He would be broken, tortured before His death. He told them the cup symbolized His shed blood given for the forgiveness of their sins. His disciples didn’t question Him about what He said, or understand the events that would soon take place, but they would in three days when He rose from the dead. You know the significance of the Last Supper Jesus ate with His disciples. You know how everything in Jesus’ life led up to that final moment. Instead of sorrow, you feel joy because Jesus forgave your sins with His broken body and shed blood. When Jesus blessed the bread, He thanked His Father for what He was about to do for the world. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV) When Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with His disciples, He celebrated it with the world. His death would bring life to everyone who accepted Him as Savior and Lord. When you take Communion, you celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection for the forgiveness of your sins and rejoice in your salvation. You bless the bread and cup, giving thanks before you partake in the celebration. After you partake, you give thanks and pray a prayer of thanksgiving for your salvation. Have you celebrated Jesus’ death and resurrection through Holy Communion recently? Do you pay attention to the significance of what it means? Do you bless God for sending Jesus to be your Savior? Jesus’ Last Supper signifies the separation of your life from Satan’s hold over you and eternal death. Satan no longer holds your sins against you. Jesus washed them clean in His blood shed for you on Calvary’s cross. Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord? Are you washed clean in the body and blood of Jesus Christ? Bless God today for what Jesus did for you. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending Jesus to be my Savior. Thank you for His death, burial, and resurrection so I can live free of my sins. Let me bless You when I partake of the celebration of life through Jesus’ broken body and shed blood. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
