Dark humor? Should a good samaritan be allowed to shoot someone who threatens to shoot him?

I am home from Montana. When I got home I read that bad guys from a certain fairly large California city are now heading to wealthier suburbs to hold guns on people and rob them. While internet surfing, I came upon this case. It's actually from years ago, I believe. The family of the criminal is angry because a good samaritan shot their beloved son when he turned to shoot someone who tried to stop a robber (him) who was holding a gun to someone's head while conducting an armed robbery. Do you think it's wrong to shoot someone who is turning to shoot you? The words of the criminal's mom (I think it was the mom) are pretty funny, in a dark way, given what her "baby" was up to. Can you see why I sometimes prefer Montana to California? In all fairness (and in the interest of complete disclosure), I have not had a gun held on me since I moved to California. And I have been assaulted, but never seriously injured. Wat are your thoughts? Should only criminals be allowed to shoot people?

Can you elaborate? I agree, but I'm not sure what your point is.

You have the right to defend yourself. I'm sorry you've been assaulted. Enjoy your day.

Sadly, the attitude of the family members does not surprise me at all. I ran into such attitudes often when I was teaching in both a school in a poor rural area and a school in a distressed urban area. They deny that their family member was doing anything wrong, deflect blame, and lie about what happened. We called it the LDD method of avoiding responsibility or consequences. Lie, Deny, Deflect.

Why teachers drink. My friend's wife is SO glad to be retired from teaching in Antioch CA.

I think that it is all right to shoot someone if they are threatening you or your loved ones.

A criminal that attempts to shoot someone in cold blood deserves to be shot for the reason that innocent lives are at steak.
