Day 48 Mark 8:1 In those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them, 2 “I have compassion on the multitude because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.” 4 Then His disciples answered Him, “How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?” 5 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” 6 So He commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude. 7 They also had a few small fish, and having blessed them, He said to set them also before them. 8 So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments. 9 Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. When you see people in need, do you have compassion for them? Do you want to help them? Or do you turn your back on them? Jesus had compassion for the people. He knew their needs, and He took care of them. However, His compassion for people didn’t always translate to His disciples. Jesus knew the people were hungry and told His disciples what would happen if He sent them away without food. His disciples saw the crowd and stated the obvious, they had seven loaves of bread and a few small fish. Jesus took what they had, blessed it, and gave it to the people. About four thousand people ate their fill. When they finished, the disciples gathered seven baskets of leftovers. Many Christians are like the disciples. They want to send people away to take care of their needs instead of helping them with what they have. They are afraid to give because then they will be without. They don’t realize that when you give, you always have enough with plenty of leftovers. It takes faith to step out and do what God requires of you. But unless you do, you will never see what God will accomplish through you. When asked to give, you only see what is in your hand. You don’t see what is in God’s hand. Faith sees what is in God’s hand and gives. When you bless God with what is in your hand, God will multiply what you have so that you have more than enough to take care of your needs. Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (NKJV) God’s supply never runs out. Let’s pray: Father, help me to see what is in Your hand and not what is in mine when I see the need in those around me. Let me give with a compassionate and generous heart, knowing that You will always supply what is needed with plenty left over. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Thank you. Not the kind put out by the prosperity preachers. But yes, I believe in the prosperity Jesus promises. I've seen evidence of it in my life. Have a blessed day.
