After two months of a “serious” subject it’s time to laugh a little. So the theme for September is a little lighter. That’s right, it’s time for a month of funny songs. All art forms are subjective, and probably none more so than comedy. That’s the problem with using comedy: I might laugh my butt off, and you might go, “huh?” Some of these songs are downright parodies. Others are hits that are a little (or a lot) on the humorous side. But they all made me smile. Here’s your teaser, the late Allan Sherman. I like the song “Matilda,” the Harry Belafonte hit, so naturally I gravitated toward this parody, complete with cultural references of the time (“she took seven books of Green Stamps, too”) and Jewish humor (“sing along with Moishe, now!”). Hope you get a chuckle out of the next month.
