Today I had bottlegourd curry and rice in my lunch. It is called lau and chalkumro in bengali. It tastes very nice. Many people cook it with moong dal or lentil also. It is a watery vegetable so good in tropical countries.

It's a vegetable from gourd family and is full of nutritional values. Very good for sugar and blood pressure management. Actually, Indians use a lot of veggies from gourd family...ashgourd, pumpkin, bottle gourd, ridge gourd ( few varieties there), chow chow, bitter gourd etc to name a few. I will cook at least one of them daily.

Yes such a combination is good for our health and if made with good spices, it can taste good as well. Chalkumro is a new name for me.

It's one of my most favourite vegetable and I like it all the ways it is cooked. My husband loves it with Chana dal and that's what I am cooking and packing for lunch dabba tomorrow.

. I love all veggies from gourd family and cook them almost daily. Today I made bharwa karela ( stuffed bitter gourd).
