Can you maintain composure under pressure?

I must admit that I still get anxious when doing something for the first time or talking in front of all the people at a particular event. I can still remember that during my younger years, I was so nervous about being on stage and the like. In my elementary and high school days, it killed me to be asked to perform or make a presentation in public. I overcame the feeling as I entered my university. We were required to have reports and presentations. That makes me more confident about being a public speaker.   Can you remain calm in stressful situations?

I even tried to hold a coin while standing in front of people. During my school days, they knew me as a timid soul. They were surprised when I had changed a lot in terms of being confident now.

I think I overcame perform/presentations when I got older. But sometimes I am still nervous, all depends on the setting and crowd.

@Shavkat That is great to keep your confidence. Do you still make public presentations now a days?

@infatuatedbby Yes. However, it is in a different way. It is in the form of teaching online.

I also thought that I will not feel it. I still have the nerve racking moment whenever having the presentations in public. But I can still handle it with confidence now.

I can look/seem very calm on the outside, but inside I could be a mess . I do think "practice" does help . . . doing something repeatedly makes you better prepared as you know what to expect. I never really had to do public speaking regularly, but I did have to perform in figure skating . . . being the only one on the ice with all eyes on you had me quite nervous (but the trick was to never show it!).

@Shavkat I don't know if practice makes perfect . . . but it does make for better chances of doing something better. I can do skating, but I don't know that I could do singing. I love to sing, as I imagine you did when you were in choir . . . but solo is a whole different thing. But wow, if they asked you to do solo, you must be pretty good !

That's a good way to deal with it. Rehearsing is also a good option not to panic in doing something in public. There are some instances that I need to write down possible questions for them to ask during the process of presentation. I think you are braver to perform figure skating than me. I still remembered that I was asked to perform singing solo in out church before as a member of a choir. The intense feeling of nervousness made me quit the group.

@much2say As for me, I prefer to say: "Practice is the best teacher."

I am glad that you were trained like this. During my high school days, my mom trained us to handle our family business. At some point, we were able to absorb tbe pointers in dealing selling and buying things up before. I also applied them when interacting with the locals now.

I can’t remain calm in stressful situations, especially when I have to speak in front of many people.

I used to be in such a situation before. I surpassed the anxiousness when started to teach Korean students before.

I can remain calm in stressful situations most of the time unless the situation is really bad. And I can speak in front of many people. I was required to do that a lot when I was working full time.

It doesn’t make me nervous to speak in front of people I don’t know, but I get a tad nervous when I have to speak in front of people I know well. That may not make sense, but that used to be how I felt. Nowadays, I think my age has given me a who cares? attitude.

I agree with you. As I grow older, I started to realise that I shouldn't think what others will say against me. I must do what I think is right or wrong. I don't need to explain myself to them in any case.

In my case, I was brightened up with my old man's words: 'Nothing will happen to your life if you are going to keep on hiding in your comfort zone.'
