The vanishing balsam

Balsam was one flower that one could see even on road sides. They came in several colours both single and double. I had them too a few years ago. I had done up the Church cemetery and had them planted there in a full row. They were double and pink in colour.
Where have all the balsams gone. I am asking this question as I do not see them here any more. What could have gone wrong with these flowers as they were so common that they just came up on their own specially in the rainy weather.
Do you have them where you live?

No balsams anymore?
Yes we have them here bright big yellow ones, but mostly to the North.
