Day 65 Luke 8:4 When a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable. 5 “A Sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell by the wayside; were trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6 Some fell on rock; as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. 7 Some fell among thorns; the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” 9 Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?” 10 He said, “To you, it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest, it is given in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’ 11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. 14 Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. 15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience. 16 No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. 17 For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light. 18 Therefore take heed of how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.” Every day you hear things that move you. What you hear either makes you happy or angry. When it’s a happy message, you want to tell others how it affects you. The same when you hear something that makes you angry. You let everyone know how you feel about the message. Jesus told the Parable of the Sower. He told the parable to people who understood the earthly message because they were all familiar with sowing and reaping. They knew how birds came and stole the seeds, or weeds choked them, and how seed landed in good soil and produced a crop. However, the parable had a heavenly meaning. When His disciples asked Him for the meaning of the parable, He told them the devil represented the birds who came and stole the seed, the Word of God. Seeds that fell on rocks represented those who heard with joy but had no root. Thorns represented the cares of the world that choked out what they heard, and the good soil represented those who heard and received the Word and bore much fruit. People who receive God’s Word with joy tell everyone, they don’t hide their knowledge. They dig deep to reveal the hidden Word of God. The more they dig, the more they learn. As Christians, you are familiar with the Parable of the Sower. However, do you pay attention to the meanings of the different seeds? What kind of seed are you? Do you worry about your life? Do you forget the message as soon as you leave the service? Or is the message planted where it will do the best? Every Christian starts out their Christian walk with enthusiasm, telling everyone what happened to them and how they can accept Jesus as Savior and Lord too. However, they don’t always continue with enthusiasm. Life gets in the way. They soon go to church occasionally, and then find no reason to continue. Their Christian walk is shallow and doesn’t bear fruit. They tell people they are Christians, but their lives don’t compute. Soon Bibles remain closed, with prayers never spoken. Satan wipes out their Christian walk with trials and temptations. They envy Christians who have the joy of living a Christian life. They see God’s blessings in their lives and want the same, but they don’t have time to put out the effort to get back into God’s Word, go to church, or pray. Is your life torn by care and worry? You know the answer, but you have no time to respond to the gentle nudge to open your Bible and pray. Take a moment, pause, and reflect on your life. Before you rush into your day, take a moment to pray. Open the Bible app on your phone and read what God says, then with a calm heart, continue with your day. You will find care and worry slip away and find joy in your day. You will smile more, and people will notice. Let them know you found God that day. Cares of This World My life was torn with worry, I didn’t know what to do. I rushed to meet deadlines, And pay the bills now due. My life was rushed with things, No time for family and friends. My Bible lay unopened, My knees in prayer wouldn’t bend. I opened my eyes and saw my life, And the chaos it became. I threw away the worry, And hung my head in shame. I couldn’t keep going Down this rocky road. I took a moment, bowed my head, And Jesus took my load. Let’s pray: Father, open my eyes to the mess I made of my life. Fill me with Your purpose and not shame as I sow a life of faith and trust. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 18 September 2023 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux The image belongs to me.
