Howdy from the road! Just a quick jaunt. My destination is Chattanooga but there’s no guarantee I’ll make it. Brown informational signs and whatnot. As I dine I’ll give you another song that I find funny. Linda? NO. Tell Her Lies and Feed Her Candy - Porter Wagoner I guess I don’t have to go any further than the title, right? This is another one of those songs that, in today’s world, would probably get banned for blatant sexism. In fact, there are a ton of country songs that’d fit that bill. But I don’t look at it this way. First, this came out before I was even born, so it’s not applicable to me. Secondly, with a title like that you know it’s not serious courting/marital (“you’re never gonna make that woman your wife unless you tell her lies and feed her candy”) advice. This is one of the early hits of Porter Wagoner, and one that’s long forgotten by most people. Except me. Tell Her Lies and Feed Her Candy Written by Joe McCracken Recorded by Porter Wagoner Released as a single, 1958 My oh my, if the apple of your eye:

Anything I tag as “classic country music” should be avoided by you at all costs.

i don't know this song, but I love music from this time period. No talk about bottoms, or nastiness. Much simpler time for sure.

They did have “naughty songs” then, but they weren’t paraded all over the place or given Grammy nominations.

@FourWalls figure the level of naughty was a little different too. the line in the sand keeps getting moved.

I wasn’t even a dirty thought in my daddy’s mind in 1958.
