Sentiments on Acting Awards Where There's A More Deserving Nominee

Let me kickstart this topic with my take on one of the more disheartening decisions the Academy has ever done... I've always felt that Ellen Burstyn deserved to win the Oscar over Julia Roberts. THERE. I've said it. Ellen's performance in "Requiem for a Dream" was nothing short of extraordinary! It's a travesty that she didn't receive the Oscar recognition she deserved. Her portrayal of Sara, a mother caught in the grip of addiction and despair, was a masterclass in acting. Come to think of it, she made me an instant fan and it got me searching for her previous work too. I did not know she was the mother in The Exorcist. That was amazing too! Anyway, her ability to convey the raw emotions of a character spiraling into the depths of addiction was both haunting and heart-wrenching. Burstyn's dedication to the role, her nuanced expressions, and the depth of her performance, in my opinion, surpassed Julia Roberts' work in "Erin Brockovich." While Roberts was undoubtedly talented, her role lacked the complexity and depth that Burstyn brought to the screen. It's disheartening to see the Oscars often favor more commercially successful films and well-known actors over the truly exceptional performances. Burstyn's snub highlights the need for the Academy to prioritize merit over fame. Do you share similar sentiments about overlooked performances in previous Oscar ceremonies? Or Emmy's? Or Tony's, even?

I think there is money involved in who gets which award, just as there is money involved in who gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

That is a possibility. It's sad though that more deserving winners don't get their chance to hold the Oscar.
