Day 74 Luke 14:15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “Blessed is he who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” 16 Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are ready.’ 18 But they all with one accord made excuses. The first said to him, ‘I bought a piece of ground, and I must see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ 19 Another said, ‘I bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ 20 Still another said, ‘I married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ 21 So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind.’ 22 And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’ 23 Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say to you that none of those men who were invited will taste my supper.’” Do you make excuses even when you receive an invitation to a choice event? Or have you invited someone to a special event with you and they turned you down? One of the men at the table with Jesus told Him the person who ate bread with Him in God’s kingdom would be blessed. Instead, Jesus told them a story about a special supper invitation. In the story, He told them of the many excuses people give about why they cannot attend the supper. Jesus went on to tell how the man sent his servant to invite those normally not invited to supper to come and still there was room at the table. He told the people at the table that those invited to the supper would never taste His supper. As Christians, you know Jesus talked about the marriage supper of the Lamb. His invitation extended first to the Jewish people, but they refused to acknowledge Him as their Messiah. Jesus then extended the invitation to everyone who would accept Him as Savior and Lord. Jesus commissioned His disciples to go into the world to make disciples of every nation. He told them to invite them to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Jesus’ disciples went into the world to bring the gospel to those who would listen and accept Him as Savior and Lord. You are the poor, maimed, lame, and blind. You listened and accepted Jesus’ invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb. When you accepted the invitation, you accepted the commission to invite everyone to the marriage supper. People will always give excuses about why they cannot accept your invitation. Their excuses cause anger that compels you to move on to the next person. It isn’t a heartless anger, but one of intense compassion at the rejection of the gospel message. You know their rejection causes eternal separation from Jesus Christ and the life they could have with Him in heaven. An invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb goes out to everyone. Those who accept the invitation will receive new robes of righteousness when they sit down with the Lamb at the marriage supper. Revelation 19:5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!” 6 And I heard the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunder, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! 7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. 9 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” Have you accepted your invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb, or did you give an excuse about why you cannot attend? Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Your invitation is a blessing I do not deserve, but one I accept with a grateful heart. I am one of those who were poor, maimed, lame, or blind. Now, I stand before You in robes of righteousness. You changed my poor estate to one of wealth. Let my praise come before You every day as I invite others to Your marriage supper. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 27 September 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux
