Day 84 John 3:22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized. 23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized. 24 For John had not yet been thrown into prison. 25 Then there arose a dispute between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purification. 26 They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified—behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!” 27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. 28 You bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore, this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease. 31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life, and he who does not believe the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” Disputes take place over many things. Some are trivial and others are major. There will always be a conflict of ideas. John’s disciples came to him and told him that Jesus also baptized people. John reminded them that he told them he was not the Christ but came before him. He compares himself to the friend of the bridegroom who hears what the bridegroom says with joy. John recognized that his time was ending, and Jesus must increase from then on. He told his disciples that Jesus was from above and spoke the things of God. He was from the earth and spoke about the things of the earth. Therefore, God certified that what Jesus said was true and gave the Holy Spirit without measure to those who believed in Him. Those who believed also had everlasting life. Those who did not believe received God’s wrath. As Christians, you know the joy of your salvation. You rejoice when you hear God’s Word preached. You not only rejoice but you study God’s Word so you can better understand what God desires from you. Jesus is the Bridegroom and you, because you accepted Him as your Savior and Lord, are the bride. When two people marry, they rejoice in each other. They spend time with each other to get to know each other better. When you spend time in God’s Word, you get to know Him better. Your knowledge leads to eternal life. Those who don’t believe will not receive eternal life but will always dispute what they hear about Jesus. God’s wrath is on them. Is your joy complete? Do you know Jesus as your Savior and Lord? Does He live in you? Is the Holy Spirit living in you and teaching you everything you need to know about your relationship with Jesus Christ? Then rejoice in your salvation. If not, get to know Jesus today so that you can rejoice and receive eternal life. Let’s pray: Father, I rejoice in my salvation. Just as John showed his disciples who Jesus was, let me tell others about Jesus so they too can rejoice in their salvation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Joy comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.
