Twitter X to charge people to use it?

Elon Musk wants to charge users a minimum £1/$1 a month to use Twitter X. If you dont pay you can only read and follow posts but not comment or post anything. If you pay you get a normal Twitter as is. If you pay more you get no junk mail and ads and other treats.
Now I do find it odd that as soon as Musk took over Twitter we got overrun with junk messages and sexbots. I think its not a coincidence. I think he created the spam so we pay not to see it.
I suspect paying for Twitter will see a collapse in use as people move to other platforms.

I don't think this is a good idea. Social platform should be free for all to use. I also have a Twitter account. Now suppose, if I'm made to pay, what I will do is, I will stop posting and just keep using Twitter as read only. Because I cannot post anything. By the way I don't use Twitter much. But those who need it for social marketing will one day eventually move on to another platform. Or will have to pay. But I don't think this idea is going to work very long.
