Equipped with a burner phone and a new job, Cassie Peters has left her hectic and secretive life in New York City for the refuge of her hometown of Mammoth Lakes, California. There, she rejoins Yosemite search and rescue, where a case she worked on a decade ago continues to haunt her.
Cassie quickly falls into old patterns, joining a group of fellow seasonal workers and young adventurers who have made Yosemite their home during the summer. She meets Petal, a young woman living in a trailer with her much older girlfriend, keeping a detailed diary of the goings-on of the park; and Jada, a recent college graduate on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend, documenting their journey on Instagram.
When these three women cross paths, Cassie's past catches up with her, and the shocking consequences ripple out far beyond what anyone could have imagined.

I don't want to give any spoilers here but Cassie is actually running away from something or someone. She also crosses paths with Petal and her girlfriend before she gets to Yosemite which raised my curiousity. Was it a coincidence?
The story is very interesting as far as the Yosemite rescue operations, the park with may paths is not confusing to the reader. The whole program just seemed like a breath of fresh air since this whole story takes place pretty much outside.
What the story boils down to is three women with something in common. And Cassie is not as innocent as she seems. I can't say anymore without spoiling it. It was an intriguing read that captured me until I finished the book. There is a touch of romance in this story.
The story is told in dual timelines.
Catherine McKenzie is one of Canada's foremost thriller writers. Anything she writes is a good read if you love thrillers.

I have not read this yet, but I do enjoy a good thriller. I have just finished reading The Secret of Cold Hill by Peter James.
