Many poor children in India work for a living but there is a rule here children below 14 years old cannot work. But at the same time we come across many child artists that work in films and earn. They normally do not need to work as they mostly come from well to do families. There is no rule for them What logic is this

It's good that children under 14 shouldn't be made to work. But I think if you have a child actor, it's OK as long as they do not work long hours and they have a tutor on set so that they can still do their schooling.

Acting is also work and there is no guarantee that their welfare is kept in mind if a shot demands that they work in the wee hours of the morning or late at nights.

@allknowing Well, there should be rules in place that say the children shouldn't work long hours, and that their schooling should be provided. That's what happens in the UK.

@sharonelton My contention is if these kids are allowed under certain conditions then the other lot who are starving should also work under acceptable conditions

@allknowing There are here too..but it still happens. In fact I read a migrant boy was sucked into a machine here in the poultry plants (factories) and he was only 16 yrs.

@allknowing I think Child labour is admitted for domestic help ages between 14&18 but they should not work hazardous jobs . Incase of films the production company will make a legal contract with the child's parent or gaurdian before appointing for the work . Most of the child artist come from cinema family itself , they become hero or heroines when they grow up.

A child is a child no matter efforts made to prove child artists' work as legal. They are subjected to worse working conditions

I actually wish they did not have those laws, I feel like if a family needs a child to help with the family in some way the child should be able to do it. it helps a family stick together and work together. Children are able to do many things to help the family.

In my opinion, children should have their childhood. They will work all their life, but childhood is unique and it will never return.
