I started reading this book months ago, and much like anything else in my life, it got interrupted. However when news broke that the author died, I decided to go ahead and give it another go. I knew it was going to be a heart and gut wrenching book to read. It was no secret to anyone that Perry struggled with a lot of demons and addiction problems. However I had no idea how truly sad parts of his life were, and just how hard he did struggle with said things. I have been having a hard time putting the book down since I re-started reading it the day after he died. The book is written really really well. I know that it wasn't the first thing he wrote, he's written movies, and TV shows and I think a play as well, but his writing style is funny, sad and just tugs at your heart in all the right ways. I have found out a lot more about him that I didn't have any idea about until reading the book. I had NO idea that his step dad is Keith Morrison who is on Dateline, or that he was in so much before Friends. I didn't know that he was in a movie with River Pheonix, or that him and Hank Azaria were such good friends. It makes me a little sad, because in his book he says that he's glad that he's known for Friends, that he is glad that he has made so many people laugh , but that he hoped that once he was dead that he would be way more well known for helping people. He turned his Malibu home into a rehab, to help people. It's been said about him, as well as him saying it about himself. He never turned someone away who needed his help. Which is cool. It's awesome to know that he would help anyone that wanted help. I still have about eighty pages left in it. I am glad I decided to read the book, but if you are thinking about reading it- you probably need a hanky and a glass of wine. I've linked the book so you can learn more about it.
