In the countryside in Bengal the bottlegourd plantations are grown in macha. It means they are covered. Bottlegourds are called lau in bengali and lauki in hindi. they are watery vegetables and dont need huge sunlight. They bulge out from the top of the cover.

thanks Judy bottlegourd is a vegetable. It is a watery vegetable. In the summer it is eaten a lot in India
